International Explorations of Technology Equity and the Digital Divide:

Deadline: October 30, 2008

(Submitted August 13, 2008) The digital divide refers to differential access between groups of individuals to computer-related resources and includes differential use of these same resources. In this edited volume, authors will explore the historical, political, sociological, and economic factors that engender global inequities related to digital technologies. In-depth examinations of the definition and origin of the 'digital divide' will illuminate its relationship to the histories of racism, sexism, classism, and imperialism/globalization. The contributing authors will present the phenomenon of digital equity from various critical social theory perspectives. These critical perspectives, together with the histories of domination and oppression on different continents, will provide contexts for understanding the fertile grounds made available for the international growth and expansion of digital inequity.

Peter Lang Publishing Education list

(Submitted August 4, 2008) One of the premier education publishing groups, Peter Lang Publishing is looking for works that understand how new literacies and new ways of seeing education are being invented -- as people from all walks of life, in diverse sites, wrestle with new technologies, shifting values, changing institutional forms and processes, and emerging structures characteristic of postmodernity/New Times/the Global Informational Age. These texts aim to explore these emerging domains and to create awareness of key trends and features, translating them into educational consciousness and practice. These texts should explore in depth and from a range of perspectives the extent, nature, and implications of new literacies in global context, challenging familiar ways of framing education, and what it means for education to be powerful, effective, and enabling under current and foreseeable conditions.

Call for Papers: Intercultural Education as Social Justice

Deadline: November 15, 2008.

(Submitted August 4, 2008) Intercultural Education, the journal of the International Association for Intercultural Education, requests manuscripts for an upcoming special issue focused on ?intercultural education as social justice.?

Intercultural Education is a global forum for the analysis of issues dealing with education in plural societies. It provides educational professionals with the knowledge and information that can assist them in contributing to the critical analysis and the implementation of intercultural education. Topics covered include: terminological issues, education and multicultural society, intercultural communication, human rights and anti-racist education, pluralism and diversity in a democratic frame work, pluralism in post-communist and in post-colonial countries, migration and indigenous issues, refugee issues, language policy issues, curriculum and classroom organisation, and school development.

This particular issue will focus more specifically on engaging in intercultural education practice that purposefully transcends ?heroes and holidays? or ?celebrating diversity? approaches and that sets as its goal the establishment and maintenance of equitable and just learning environments for all students. We are looking for contributions that push the boundaries of intercultural and multicultural education, that draw on analyses of systemic inequities, that engage critical theories. We are interested, as well, in research articles that critically analyze dominant intercultural education discourses, policies, and practices?especially those that may contribute to inequities rather than eliminating them. All submissions should address explicitly the importance of social justice in relation to intercultural education.

You are welcome to send an expression of intent to submit, which should include a 50-or-fewer-word description of your proposed topic and focus.Manuscripts must follow the journal guidelines.
